Accommodation Booking Recommendations
During the Loy Krathong festival each year, Chiang Mai welcomes a large number of visitors, and accommodations tend to be fully booked well in advance. We highly recommend booking your stay 5–10 months ahead of time to secure your preferred lodging at a reasonable price and to ensure convenient transportation to and from the event venue.
we recommend choosing accommodation near the Pick-up Point at Payap University or near one of the Drop-off Points after the event:
-
Payap University
-
Night Bazaar Area
-
Maya Mall Area
(Since shuttles pick up from one location but drop off at three, staying near any of these drop-off points allows easy access on your return.)
Staying in these areas makes it easier to walk to the shuttle departure point, or you may also consider using your hotel’s shuttle service or calling public transport to reach the pick-up location and return safely after the event.
We recommend booking your stay through platforms such as Booking.com, Agoda, or any application of your choice. These platforms allow you to preview rooms, compare prices and distances to the pick-up point, and check amenities before making a reservation. Use the following search filters:
-
Set your check-in date to match your ticket date, such as November 5 or 6, 2025.
-
Search for accommodations near Paradornparp International House (PIH) Payap University (บ้านพักนานาชาติภราดรภาพ มหาวิทยาลัยพายัพ) or Night Bazaar Area, Maya Mall
-
We recommend selecting accommodations with guest ratings of at least 8.0 and above to ensure quality and service standards.

At the Chedi Zone, the spiritual center of the event, you will witness the stunning and elaborate preparations in a sacred and awe-inspiring atmosphere. In this area, you can participate in various activities designed to prepare for the highlight of the evening — the sky lantern release.

You will also enjoy a variety of exquisite cultural performances, including traditional Lanna dances, folk music, and other showcases that beautifully reflect the rich heritage of Lanna culture.

These performances aim to both entertain and enrich attendees’ understanding of Lanna art and culture.

An auspicious ritual designed to spiritually prepare participants for the symbolic and heartfelt moment of the sky lantern release.
Sky Lantern Release Ceremony
Participate in the simultaneous release of sky lanterns at approximately 8:15 PM. (Please follow all safety instructions carefully.)

The simultaneous release of sky lanterns is one of the most significant and memorable moments of the Yi Peng Festival. Beyond creating a breathtaking visual experience, it holds deep cultural and spiritual meaning.

Culturally, the act of releasing a sky lantern symbolizes the letting go of misfortune, sorrow, and negativity from one’s life. It is believed that as the lantern rises into the sky, it carries away bad luck and unwanted burdens, bringing peace of mind and a sense of spiritual renewal to those who release it.

To ensure a smooth and safe lantern release, all participants are strongly advised to follow the instructions given by the event staff and announcers. Adhering to these guidelines helps prevent accidents and ensures that the lantern release proceeds peacefully and beautifully.

Releasing a sky lantern is an act of reverence to the sacred and a way of making wishes for happiness, prosperity, and peace for oneself and one’s family.

The ceremony will begin with a simultaneous lantern release, followed by a period where participants may release their lanterns freely.

After the ceremony concludes, participants will prepare to board the shuttle for the return trip. While waiting, enjoy live performances featuring a blend of contemporary and traditional music.
